Today I bring to you Helen Frankenthaler who showcases all of the elements as I listed above (which I love) in many of her works.
Helen has exhibited her work for six decades. She created large scale paintings which she began to exhibit in 1950 & her career was launched in 1952 with the exhibition of "Mountains and Sea". This painting is very large - it measures 7 by 10 feet. It looks like a watercolor yet it was painted in oils.
In 2001, she was awarded the National Medal of Arts.
At the beginning of her career she was categorized as an abstract expressionist painter yet in 1960 the term Color Field painting was used to describe her work. This style was characterized by large areas of a more or less flat single color which I love so much.
Take a look at her works of art which are some of my favorite. I would love to own every one of these pieces. They are just stunning!
